Cristina, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Shane (Gaius Charles) gave a press conference on the success of Cristina’s conduit trial, where Cristina was visibly nervous — especially when Meredith walked in.
And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Burn After Burn
While Cristina and Meredith were getting fitted for bridesmaid dresses, gauntlets were thrown. The fact that Cristina was getting credit for her printer and being considered for the Harper Avery award set Meredith off. They both criticized each other for how they live their lives, with Cristina saying Meredith felt left behind since she started a family, then Meredith calling Cristina a shark and accusing her of sleeping her way to the top! (Ouch, Mere.) Meredith congratulated her on becoming the thing she worshiped.
Then, the burn of all burns: “And you became the thing we laughed at,” Cristina said.
Later, before April’s (Sarah Drew) wedding, the two former best friends exchanged more brutal words with each other. Cristina declared that she was not the same person she was in medical school, that she has changed. She was doing this all alone and that was just as hard as what Meredith was doing.
Cristina then broke down their stone wall and said, “I thought I would at least have you.” Once that wall was broken, Meredith said, “I’m so jealous of you, I want to set things on fire.”
And finally, even though they acknowledged they were growing apart, they still have each other. “You are who we both set out to be,” Meredith said, to which Cristina replied, “You’ve become something we never saw coming.”
At the wedding, Meredith thanked her great hubby Derek (Patrick Dempsey) for allowing her so much time for her research. She knew he was turning down a lot of stuff, but she doesn’t know how much: Derek got a call in the middle of wedding that was a direct line to the President! He came back to the wedding, but wait, did he speak to the President or hang up? Also, does this mean that the president is Scandal’s President Fitzgerald Grant?
Crossover, please!
Thanks For The Not-So-Good Memories
Alex and his dad (James Remar) were bound to confront their deep issues some night, and tonight was that night. Alex asked how he could have forgotten his wife and children, and Jimmy said Alex was a happy kid, but that he ruined it. And while I’m glad they weren’t throwing punches, Alex got pretty heated and repeatedly called his dad worthless.
“I was the kid, but I was the dad!” he screamed at Jimmy. After calling him worthless one more time, he went straight back to surgery.
Later, Alex returned and basically thanked him for leaving. He wouldn’t have become the man or doctor he is today if Jimmy had stayed. Alex said goodbye and wished him better luck with the kid in Florida. They almost hugged… but settled for a handshake.
While everyone was at April’s wedding, Jimmy began to crash, so Shane took initiative and booked him for surgery without an attending present. He’s kind of gotten the big head from working with Cristina. However, when Shane and Leah (Tessa Ferrer) got into surgery, Jimmy’s injuries were worse than they thought, and although Shane kept saying he had it together, he obviously did not. Leah ran and fetched Richard (James Pickens Jr.) for help.
When Richard entered the OR, Shane was practically catatonic. He kept saying it was his fault; not just Jimmy, but Heather. Richard had to take over for Shane, and I don’t know if Shane is ever going to get past all of this. And I don’t know if Alex will get past this if Jimmy doesn’t make it!
Total Eclipse Of The Heart
What time is it? Wedding time! April seemed fine all day about her wedding to Matthew (Justin Bruening), aside from the typical bride stress. Matthew and April also had one adorable meeting in the hospital, which made me fall even more in love with him.
At the wedding, April was all smiles as she walked down the aisle. The priest asked if everyone would support their marriage, and Jackson (Jesse Williams)… didn’t say so. He stood up, then sat right back down, before, making the sweetest declaration of love. Ever. All against the background music of “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Perfection.
“I love you, April. I always have. I love everything about you. Even the things I don’t like. I love you and I think you love me too,” Jackson said.
And with that, my heart has been slayed. How do you not cry at a confession like that? I’ll be honest, I did, and I’m not ashamed. How do you choose between guys like Matthew and Jackson? And yes, Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) was right next to Jackson as he professed his love for April.
Like April, my mouth was agape at Jackson’s shocking confession. In the typical Shonda Rhimes way, April’s choice was cut short until the show’s return in February.
So HollywoodLifers, what did you think of tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy? Did Derek really hang up on the President? Who will April choose? Sound off in the comments below!
